Short Run CD Duplication – Some quick Do’s and Don’ts.

I want to talk to you a bit about making sound decisions when duplicating your finished album or EP for sales and promotion to the music industry and media. You will want to create a music album or EP with a quality cover, (optional) lyrics within the sleeve (the thinner the sleeve, the less it will cost, although I personally prefer adding lyrics within the sleeve if your songs have lyrics). You will need to type out all album credits and thank you’s. You will also need a barcode.

***Barnes & Noble has the ONLY music promotion book that will show you how to launch a successful music career, REGARDLESS of your age. Don’t want to wait for the book, and don’t own a Nook? You can ALSO order an Instant Download by clicking here.

Hiring a Short Run CD duplication company that handles all aspects of manufacturing, including graphics and barcode, is your best bet “time-wise,” and having (some) of the CD’s manufactured “without shrink wrap” (or removing the shrink wrap yourself), is also wise since it is, in fact, much more courteous to distribute your new CD to club promoters, radio personnel, and magazine/newspaper writers without shrink wrap. Removing shrink wrap from a brand new CD is a notorious nuisance for most people, and some media personnel might actually bypass your CD simply because they don’t want to unwrap it!

My personal opinion is that it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to manufacture 1,000+ CD’s if you’re not completely sure what you’re going to do with all of them. If you start out with 100 or even 50 CD’s, you might pay a bit more per unit, but you will still end up saving A LOT of money if a few hundred of those 1,000 discs end up as living room furniture in your home. It is best to start out with a small amount of CD’s. You can ALWAYS manufacture more. Short run CD duplication companies specialize in manufacturing smaller orders of discs, at a much more reasonable cost than the larger companies.
