Indie Filmmakers: promotion and marketing is how we roll.

Indie Filmmakers, Promotion, Marketing, Paul Spencer Alexander
This article will immediately teach Indie Filmmakers to blast their projects throughout the digital universe.

It is with the most sacred of enthusiasm and optimism for Indie Filmmakers that we get started together as a TEAM, building success one brick at a time so that you get to prosper and I get to see your career bloom as you pursue the promotion and marketing strategies I suggest.  As I’ve lectured to Musicians and Songwriters since 2010 on this newly-designed free online school (formerly musicianscompanion.net), I now include all of you talented indie filmmakers for promotion and marketing strategies with the premise of following the KISS method (Keep it simple, stupid).  No, you’re not stupid but it’s a joke I’ve used on myself to keep myself focused and accomplishing more.  The adage works.

I chose to include my own films within my own creative arsenal and have had some very good results.  That’s why I expanded my school to include Indie Filmmakers in order to teach promotion and marketing strategies I’ve used with success.

What makes me DIFFERENT than most Artists who have gained some form of success in the entertainment industry is that, unlike so many who keep their methods “top secret,” I am also a teacher and writer.  I am an unusually compassionate person who loves sharing with the creative community my own “trials and errors” because Indie Filmmakers, Musicians, and ALL other Artists should be supporting one-another.  That is OUR mission.  If you don’t agree, then this educational site is not for you.  In short, this is not only a school with a series of lesson plans designed as informative articles; it is a personal diary of my own journey where only the strategies that I used that resulted in a “triumph” are passed along to you, dear reader.

With all of the above said, make no mistake: I AM one of you.  I am just like you, and no different.  I’ve got SUCCESS on my mind, and so should you.  I am a creative person obsessed with succeeding by getting my work out there to as many people as possible.  And yes, making an ongoing living from it would be wonderful and should be your goal as well.  Throw out any “starving Artist” mentality.  You’ll program yourself incorrectly, and the consequence will be that you KEEP yourself in that position.  Don’t let it happen!

My other goal is to be a leader in educating all you folks on promotion and marketing strategies.  I will share creative strategies for your projects later on.  Indie Filmmakers and Indie Music Artists should immediately go to the FREE sample audio chapter from my previous book, which you will find on the Ebook page.  I am not trying to make a sale, here.  It’s not even available anymore on its existing sales platform, but will be available soon as an updated version on Kindle.  This sample chapter will always be included, even as the rules of the entertainment change.  It is timeless, common sense, and I want you to listen to the sample chapter before continuing because the rules of it don’t change with time.  I am concerned about your daily routine and living habits so that you will remain HEALTHY and consistent.  This is why you must listen to the sample.  The Film and Music Industries are an ever-evolving and changing landscape, so when one writes a book on either of these subjects, it must be continuously updated to keep up with the times.

Welcome back!  To wrap things up, let me give you a few quick choices for uploading and marketing your Indie Films and Videos (as well as music if you create that to).  Please look at your three choices below.  EVERYTHING you do from now on is going to be done digitally.  Make sure you copyright EVERYTHING, as that can be done digitally as well at the United States Copyright Office website.  Here are your choices.  You are going to build a complete profile (have the guts to do it, build your profile on one of these platforms, and submit your projects from the platform of your choice below).  Do not leave ANY section blank.  Reveal your true creativity and artistry in all of the other areas surrounding your film.  Here goes:

1.) Filmfreeway.com

2.) Festhome.com

3.) Withoutabox.com

I am making no judgments or suggestions on which one to use.  I chose Filmfreeway.com because I (metaphorically) rolled the dice and setting up my profile ended up being completely FREE (score!!), the design is beautiful, and guess what?  I can’t share the profile with you publicly because my film: “A Love By Your Side” has already been accepted into a Los Angeles festival, I’m awaiting more responses, and the rules require that the film must not be available publicly.

All of you have heard of Withoutabox.com.  They are now owned by Amazon (a great thing) and they get you access to IMDB (also a great thing).  It is, however, more expensive than “free.”  I just randomly tried Filmfreeway.com and I love it.  Festhome.com is also available now, so you have even more choices.  With this said, you can always set up a profile at IMDB.com (Internet Movie Base) separately.  Getting into a festival will really qualify your film as “accepted,” so you may want to wait to set up on IMDB.  Or, you can always just do it now.  It’s your choice, and you really can wait on this one.

In summation, I must reapeat that all you Indie Filmmakers had better fill out your profiles completely.  Make it a “, professional, Class Act.”  You ARE a professional.  You must appear that way.  Be very careful selecting the appropriate categories for your film submissions.  Your journey to the top begins with taking just one step.

Until next time!

Paul Spencer Alexander
